This color blindness test hides a number inside a circular plate made of differently colored dots, and checks your color vision by whether you can spot it. It targets red-green color vision deficiency, the most common type — a number that's obvious to people with normal color vision blends almost seamlessly into the background for people with red-green deficiency.

Red-green color vision deficiency is the most common type of color blindness, affecting roughly 8% of men and 0.5% of women of Northern European descent. It's usually caused by a gene variant on the X chromosome, which is why it's far more common in men. The Ishihara test that inspired this screening method was devised in 1917 by Japanese ophthalmologist Shinobu Ishihara.
Your monitor's color calibration, screen brightness, and ambient lighting significantly affect color discrimination. Night mode or blue-light filters can distort colors and skew your result.
People with normal color vision typically get 7-8 out of 8 plates correct. Scoring 4-6 correct may be borderline, and 3 or fewer suggests a possible red-green deficiency worth following up on.
This isn't a test you can train your way to a better score on. That said, testing in bright natural light with night mode and blue-light filters turned off will give you a more accurate result.
