The highest level you reach without a mistake is saved as your record. A higher level means you memorized a longer pattern, and you can compare your level with other users on the leaderboard.
Screen size and tile spacing, along with distractions like ambient noise or notifications during the test, affect memory accuracy. Smaller screens make it harder to distinguish tile positions, leading to more mistakes.
Most people start making mistakes around level 5-7 (a pattern length of 5-7 tiles), and reaching level 10+ is a fairly trained result. Elite World Memory Championship competitors reproduce far longer patterns using specialized memorization techniques.
Most people can hold around 7 digits in short-term memory at once (Miller's Law). At the World Memory Championships, trained competitors have memorized over 300 digits in a single sitting — a result of practiced technique more than raw natural talent.
Daily/weekly/monthly rankings collect each user's best score recorded within the last 24 hours, 7 days, or 30 days. The all-time ranking includes every record since the site launched.
When multiple users share the same score, whoever recorded it first is shown at the higher rank.
Q. Does it get harder as the level goes up?
A. Yes — the pattern grows by one tile each round, so the difficulty keeps increasing by design.
Q. Does one mistake end the test immediately?
A. Yes — getting the order wrong even once ends the round right away, and the last level you completed successfully is saved as your record.
